Meeting a Critical Need: Florida Coast Medical Center Set to Open in Port St. Lucie
The growing population of Port St. Lucie has placed increasing pressure on the area’s healthcare system—but a new state-of-the-art hospital is aiming to change that. The Florida Coast Medical Center, set to open in September 2025, is designed to improve access to care and meet the community’s evolving medical needs.
As reported by both WPTV and WPBF 25 News, local physicians and hospital leadership agree that this facility will fill a much-needed gap in services. The new hospital will feature 54 acute care beds, a 26-bed emergency department, advanced operating rooms, and a variety of specialty services including cardiology and orthopaedics.
Among the hospital’s board members is Dr. William E. Carlson, Board-Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon and Managing Partner of South Florida Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine. With over 30 years of experience practicing in the region, Dr. Carlson expressed enthusiasm for the opportunities this facility brings—not only to patients, but also to the physicians involved in shaping its care model from the ground up.
“It gives you the ability to start with efficiency in the system,” Dr. Carlson shared in an interview with WPBF. “It’s better efficiency in the operating room. You have robots to assist you… outcomes are better.”
Dr. Carlson also spoke to WPTV about the hospital’s potential to improve emergency access on the Treasure Coast:
“It’s a very strong start in the emergency room here to be able to accommodate what we anticipate is going to happen.”
With top-tier technology, expanded capacity, and a vision focused on community wellness, Florida Coast Medical Center is poised to become a vital resource for patients and providers alike.
