Mark E. Moran, MD

Mark E. Moran, MD, is a fellowship-trained pediatric orthopaedic surgeon with nearly 30 years of experience diagnosing and treating orthopaedic conditions in children and adolescents. He specializes in pediatric orthopaedic care and has extensive expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of childhood musculoskeletal conditions, including scoliosis, congenital deformities, hip dysplasia, clubfoot, bowing of the legs, pediatric fractures, and sports-related injuries.

Dr. Moran earned his medical degree from the University of Toronto in Canada and completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Toronto, including two additional years of research with world-renowned physicians. He went on to complete fellowship training in pediatric orthopaedics and scoliosis surgery at the University of California, San Diego Children’s Hospital. During his career, Dr. Moran also had the opportunity to collaborate on research with Dr. Robert Bruce Salter, a pioneer in pediatric orthopaedic surgery whose work significantly advanced the understanding and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions in children.

Because children’s bones are still growing and respond differently to injury and treatment than adult bones, pediatric orthopaedic conditions require specialized knowledge and experience. Injuries involving a child’s growth plates, for example, can result in long-term deformity if not properly diagnosed and treated. Dr. Moran brings specialized pediatric orthopaedic training and extensive clinical experience to the care of growing children, with an emphasis on providing treatment that accounts for their unique anatomy and continued development.

Dr. Moran provides comprehensive pediatric orthopaedic care, including both surgical and nonsurgical treatment for scoliosis and other spinal conditions. His areas of expertise include congenital and developmental deformities, clubfoot, bowing of the legs, hip dysplasia, pediatric fractures, sports injuries, sprains and strains, and tendon and cartilage injuries. He also treats a wide range of general pediatric orthopaedic conditions affecting children and adolescents.

Prior to joining South Florida Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine in 2019, Dr. Moran practiced in Chicago for 20 years. During his time there, he served in leadership roles, including head of the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery and chief of surgery. He also dedicated significant time to caring for children through the Chicago Shriners and Illinois Elks pediatric clinics.

Dr. Moran is committed to providing compassionate, specialized orthopaedic care and helping young patients and their families understand their diagnoses and treatment options. His extensive training and experience allow him to provide individualized care for children with complex orthopaedic conditions, from common childhood injuries to congenital deformities and pediatric scoliosis.

Dr. Moran sees pediatric orthopaedic patients at South Florida Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine’s Stuart and Tradition locations, serving children and families throughout Stuart, Port St. Lucie, and the Treasure Coast.
