Robotic Total Knee Arthroscopy

Robotic Total Knee Arthroscopy

At South Florida Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine, we believe that your knee pain shouldn’t be keeping you from enjoying your life to the fullest. This is why we’re proud to say that we have a new robotic technology that provides personalized care for total knee replacement.

Our Joint Replacement Doctors with fellowship training in adult reconstructive hip and knee replacement surgery performs the procedure using the ROSA Knee Robotic Technology.

About Rosa Knee

ROSA stands for Robotic Surgical Assistant. It’s a robotic technology designed to help the surgeon tailor the placement of the knee implant specifically just for you. During a total knee replacement surgery, getting a precise implant fit is very important for comfort and overall recovery and condition after surgery. The ROSA Knee system helps the surgeon achieve this by utilizing the patient’s data collected before and during the surgery. The data provided by ROSA helps the surgeon in creating a plan that is specific to the patient’s unique anatomical features. The robot doesn’t do the surgery itself, but provides great assistance to the surgeon, allowing for a more precise procedure.

What can you expect before, during, and after the procedure…

Before surgery

The pre-operative preparation is similar to the traditional knee replacement surgery. However, with ROSA, a series of X-rays will be taken to help create a three-dimensional (3D) model of your knee anatomy. This 3D model will then be used by your surgeon to plan for the specifics of the surgery.

During surgery

Our orthopedic surgeons are specifically trained to use ROSA Knee. With that, they can personalize their approach, based on your unique anatomy. The surgeon does the surgery the whole time and makes the decisions. Using a camera and optical trackers attached to your leg, the ROSA Knee provides your surgeon with more accurate information as to where your knee is in space. This allows your surgeon to carry out the surgery as planned.

After surgery

Hospitalization is required after surgery. The length of hospital stay can vary, but it’s usually from 1-3 nights.
