Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr. Daniel A. Jones Featured on CBS 12 for First Robot-Assisted Knee Surgery at Florida Coast Medical Center
South Florida Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine is proud to share that Daniel A. Jones, MD, board-certified orthopaedic surgeon with fellowship training in adult reconstructive hip and knee replacement surgery, was recently featured on CBS 12 News for performing the first robot-assisted knee replacement at Florida Coast Medical Center in Port St. Lucie. (WPEC)
In the CBS 12 segment, cameras go inside the operating room as Dr. Jones uses the ROSA® Knee robotic system to perform a total knee replacement on patient and former tennis player John Michael Cook. The technology is designed to help surgeons plan and execute knee replacement surgery with a high level of precision and balance. (WPEC)
Dr. Jones explains that the system allows him to enter detailed measurements and alignment goals into a computer program before making any cuts. The ROSA robot then helps position the cutting guides exactly where they’re needed—while Dr. Jones remains in control of the surgery the entire time. This added level of accuracy is intended to support more consistent implant placement and may help optimize outcomes for knee replacement patients. (WPEC)
The case, completed in under an hour, marks an exciting milestone in bringing advanced robotic joint replacement options to the Treasure Coast. As robot-assisted procedures become more common nationwide, experts predict a growing share of knee replacements could be performed with robotic assistance in the years ahead. (WPEC)
