Robotic Spine Surgery

Over 31 million Americans suffer from lower back pain, one of the leading causes of disability in the country.

Many start off with conservative treatments such as bed rest, use of muscle relaxants, prescription pain relievers, and physical therapy. While some may experience relief from any or combination of these, there are also those who don’t.

For those who experience too little to no relief at all in these conservative pain management measures, the doctor may recommend surgery.

South Florida Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine offers a revolutionary way to operate on the root cause of lower back pain. We offer the Mazor Robotics Renaissance for spine surgery.

Robotic Spine Surgery

What is the Mazor Robotics Renaissance?

Mazor Robotics Renaissance is a robotics technology that improves the accuracy and precision in spine surgeries. It involves the following steps:

Step 1. Preoperative planning
Using your own preoperative CT scan, a virtual 3D blueprint is created in preparation for surgery.

Step 2. Attachment of the robot
A mount will be attached to the affected site. This will ensure consistent accuracy and precision all throughout the procedure.

Step 3. 3D synchronization
With the use of two fluoroscopy images, the mounting system and the surgical blueprint are synchronized.

Step 4. Surgery
Once the mounting system and surgical blueprint are synchronized, the surgery is performed. The tools and implants to be used are guided, ensuring 1 mm accuracy.

Robotic spine surgery offers a lot of benefits including smaller incisions (and consequently scars), less blood loss, shorter hospital stay, less postoperative pain, and faster recovery.
